RAIPUR, Feb. 29 -- The Customs Commissionerate has destroyed 40.86 lakh sticks of cigarettes, cigars and rolling paper valued at Rs. 3.89 crore in Raipur, an official communique said on Wednesday.

They were disposed of as per prescribed guidelines with the assistance of officers of Central CGST in Raipur and in the presence of independent witnesses, officers of Customs ICD, Raipur, and DRI officials.

The seized foreign origin cigarette packets did not have a mandatory pictorial health warning in compliance with notifications issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The action was taken as part of a drive against illegal imports of foreign-origin cigarettes and other contraband.
