RAIPUR, March 2 -- The coronavirus vaccination for the elderly began in Chhattisgarh on Monday, the Health Department said.

"The vaccine was received by elderly people. By Monday evening, 3,259 persons had received vaccine shots," said Dr Amar Singh, the Immunization Officer.

No case of side effects was reported, Dr Amar said, adding health and frontline workers who were left out also received the vaccine shot.

Vaccination of people between 45 and 59 years also started. These people have to present a certificate of co-morbidity signed by a registered medical practitioner.

In all, 509 people between 45 to 59 years received the first dose of vaccine, Dr Thakur said.

Chhattisgarh has set a target of vaccinating 30 lakh elderly people.
