Kolkata, Feb. 10 -- The Bengal Government has taken "seriously" the reports of 196 women inmates of State run penitentiaries delivering babies during incarceration.
Bengal Minister for prisons Akhil Giri on Friday said he had no information of such incidents taking place but assured, "I will immediately get my department to find out the matter as there are only a couple of common correctional homes where both men and women can stay while in most others they are separate reformatories . even in that case the women are getting pregnant then we will definitely have to inquire into things."
Earlier the Calcutta High Court on Thursday took cognizance of reports rising serious concerns over the issue.
