Bhopal, April 23 -- Bhopal's underground gambling world, once quietly thrumming beneath the city's surface, has gone unusually quiet in recent weeks. The sound of dice clatter, card shuffles, and whispered wagers has faded - a response, insiders say, to firm warnings from the police.

Confirming the development, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Awadhesh Goswami says, "We have strengthened beat policing in known hotspots and at the moment there are no reports of organised gambling from anywhere in the city."
