Jammu, May 26 -- A violent cattle smuggling incident in the Phoolpur area of Samba district (Jammu division) claimed the life of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Yograj and left another police officer injured early on Sunday morning. The incident occurred when bovine smugglers rammed their vehicle into a police checkpoint, set up to intercept a suspected smuggling attempt.
According to the reports, acting on specific intelligence, police had established barricades at Phoolpur to stop the illegal transport of cattle. When signalled to halt, the smugglers accelerated, deliberately crashing into the barricades and targeting the on-duty officers.
