Bhopal, May 25 -- As part of its anti-pollution drive, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday recovered Rs 75,000 in spot fines from two snack factories at Chhola for using banned coal-fired furnaces.
The action comes days after The Pioneer reported a massive spike in Ground Level Ozone (GLO) levels, blaming it on the unchecked use of solid fuels and paraffins.
The crackdown was carried out in Ward 76 of Zone 17, where Mohan Namkeen and Shaanvi Namkeen were found operating coal and wood-fired furnaces. Unhygienic conditions were also observed during the inspection.
Acting under National Green Tribunal orders, the BMC imposed a total fine of Rs 75,000-Rs 50,000 on Mohan Namkeen and Rs 25,000 on Shaanvi Namkeen-the highest yet ...
