Lucknow, March 5 -- Upendra Singh Rawat, a BJP Member of Parliament representing Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, has stirred controversy by withdrawing his candidature from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the wake of an alleged obscene video scandal.

Initially listed among the BJP's contenders for the forthcoming polls, Rawat found himself embroiled in a scandal following the emergence of a video purportedly showing him in a compromising position with a foreign woman.

Despite vehemently refuting the video's authenticity, Rawat opted to step down from the electoral race, acknowledging the need to address the swirling controversy surrounding him.
