Kolkata, June 21 -- The Bengal BJP on Friday celebrated the Paschim Banga Diwas much to the chagrin of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee whose Government had already declared and celebrated the Bangla Diwas on the Bengali New Year's Day on Poila Boisakh (April 15).
The celebrations led to a brief skirmish between the members of Kolkata Police and the saffron workers after the former stopped a motor-bike rally of BJP workers led by State party president Sukanta Majumdar barely a km off Chief Minister's residence.
The rally had started from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's house at Elgin Road and was headed towards Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Road when it was allegedly stopped by the police leading to a scuffle between the two sides.
