Kolkata, June 10 -- In a major step forward the Mamata Banerjee Government has directed the administrations of districts bordering Bangladesh to hasten up transferring of lands to the Border Security Force in order to complete the fencing border areas.

The decision comes amid continuing crisis and rising criminal activities including infiltration and smuggling along the borders.

"The District Magistrates and Superintendants of Police have been directed to speed up the process of transferring 356 acres of land so that barbed fences can be installed as soon as possible," a senior official at the State secretariat at Nabanna said.

There are eleven districts bordering Bangladesh from North Bengal to South Bengal.
