India, Feb. 17 -- In first of its kind protest ever held, the citizens of Andaman and Nicobar Islands observed a day's voluntary closure of civic amenities by keeping away from them, in support of the ongoing protest by students, who for past nine days have been demanding the Andaman and Nicobar Administration that 'Deemed to be University' should not be thrust on them and that they would like their medical, law and engineering colleges to remain affiliated by Pondicherry University, as it had been over the years.
