Bhopal, April 6 -- Bhopal parliamentarian Alok Sharma on Saturday came out in support of the new Waqf Amendment Bill, promising that the new provisions will end years of corruption and land encroachments.

Sharma claimed that influential figures-nicknamed Chacha, Mamma and Pahalwan-had illegally seized Waqf land. He accused them of registering land in one place but building elsewhere using dubious gift deeds.

He said such activities will now be strictly punished under the new law. "Those who grabbed land will go to jail," Sharma declared, calling it the end of Waqf-related corruption.

The Waqf Amendment Bill has already cleared both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It is now awaiting the President's signature to officially become law.
