Prayagraj, May 24 -- In a strongly worded judgment, the Allahabad High Court has criticised the Uttar Pradesh Government for allowing thousands of seized vehicles to deteriorate in police stations, warehouses and department depots across the State.

The court observed that punishment is meant for the offender, not the vehicle, and termed the delay in the disposal of such vehicles an "administrative failure" and a "violation of constitutional rights."

Justice Vinod Diwakar, while hearing a petition filed by Aligarh residents Birendra Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Praveen Singh Chauhan, emphasised that seized vehicles are not merely evidence of a crime but are integral to national development.
