Prayagraj, May 16 -- In a significant ruling touching on personal laws and religious freedoms, the Allahabad High Court has upheld that a Muslim man is allowed to marry more than once, provided he treats all wives equally and adheres to the conditions set by the Quran. However, the court also noted that polygamy is often misused for personal gain, contrary to its original intent.

Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal made the observations while hearing a petition by Furkan, a man seeking to quash criminal proceedings against him, including a chargesheet and summons issued by a Moradabad court.
