India, Nov. 16 -- The Uttar Pradesh Government has moved to withdraw charges against all accused of lynching Mohammad Akhlaq. His lynching had sparked nationwide outrage. The withdrawal application in a local court has been filed by Additional District Government Counsel Bhag Singh Bhati.

The police had filed a charge sheet against 15 people, including Vishal Rana, son of a local BJP leader, as main accused, who led the mob.

"A letter has been received from the Government regarding the withdrawal of the case against all the accused in the Akhlaq murder case. The application has been submitted before the Surajpur court and will be heard on December 12," Bhati said.
