New Delhi, June 13 -- Flight hits medical college, 5 dead, several injured

In one of the worst air tragedies, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (VT-ANB), from Ahmedabad to London airport, crashed shortly into a residential area near the Ahmedabad airport minutes after take-off at 1.38 pm on Thursday afternoon, with 242 people on board, including two pilots and 10 cabin crew members. One person has miraculously survived, while 241 of his co-passengers are feared dead.

BJP's Vijay Rupani (68) a former Chief Minister of Gujarat (from 2016 to 2021) was among passengers killed in the crash. Of them, 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese and one Canadian national were on board.
