New Delhi, May 18 -- In a huge blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), 13 councillors resigned from the party on Saturday and announced the formation of a new political front - the Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP). The breakaway group cited hindrance in development work, internal conflicts and a lack of responsiveness from the AAP leadership as the primary reasons for their departure.
With the fresh wave of defections, the AAP's numbers in the MCD have been reduced from 113 to 100. The BJP has 117 and the Congress has eight. Notably, the anti-defection law does not apply to municipal bodies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), allowing for this kind of political manoeuvre.
