Mumbai, May 5 -- In reaffirmation of an extraordinary story of co-existence of humans and big cats in the country's commercial capital, a camera trap survey has revealed a thriving population of as many as 54 unique leopards in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SNGP) and the adjoining landscapes.
Confirming the development, Anita Patil, Conservator of Forest and Director, SGNP, said: "The continued presence of these magnificent leopards in such densely populated urban regions speaks volumes about nature's resilience and the importance of conserving the spaces they depend upon. Scientific monitoring exercises like this are vital for understanding the status of our wildlife and planning informed conservation actions".
