Manila, Feb. 20 -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) announced Thursday it is reinforcing military forces in Zamboanga City to assist local police in maintaining peace and order.

The decision was discussed by Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, Westmincom chief, during his visit Wednesday to Camp Gen. Arturo Enrile, headquarters of the military's Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ).

The additional troops will be deployed to key checkpoints on the city's outskirts to enhance security measures.

"This move aims to support the local police forces in addressing current security concerns, as highlighted by Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe," Westmincom said in a statement.
