MANILA, Nov. 9 -- Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) maintained its strength late Sunday morning as it lashed the Bicol Region with destructive winds and torrential rain.
Uwan will likely make landfall in central Aurora late Sunday or early Monday at or near its peak intensity, possibly bringing the eyewall directly over Calaguas and Polillo Islands, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
At 10 a.m., the eye of Uwan was spotted over the coastal waters of Pandan, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph), gusts of up to 230 kph, and a central pressure of 935 hPa.
