Manila, Aug. 1 -- Up to 17 cyclones are expected to develop or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this month until January 2026, the weather bureau said on Friday.

Two or three cyclones are expected in the country this August, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored outside the PAR has developed into a tropical depression at around 2 p.m. Friday.

It was last tracked 1,350 km. east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said this is not expected to have a direct effect on the country.

The prevailing southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains, particularly in several areas across Luzon, it added.
