Manila, Sept. 11 -- The United Nations Secretary-General's special envoy for road safety expressed his full support to the Philippine government's campaign to promote road safety.
Special Envoy Jean Todt, who is on a mission in the Philippines from Sept. 8 to 11, cited the need for strong collaboration and "deeper actions", warning that deaths from road crashes continue to rise in the country and across Asia.
"The reality in your country, between 2011 and 2024, the number of victims on the road have been increased by about 60 percent," he said in a press conference in Mandaluyong City on Thursday.
"At the UN level, we are happy to contribute to develop your beautiful country," he added.
