Butuan city, July 30 -- Local government units (LGUs) in the Caraga Region have ordered the suspension of sea travel and classes due to the threat of a tsunami, which might be triggered by the magnitude 8.7 earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia on Wednesday.
Following the advisory issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), Dinagat Islands Vice Governor Geraldine Ecleo, serving as OIC Governor, issued Executive Order (EO) No. 07-07, directing the implementation of preemptive measures in coastal communities and the temporary suspension of sea travel.
"All sea travel to and from Dinagat Islands is hereby suspended effective immediately until further notice," the EO said.
