Manila, June 30 -- The Department of Health (DOH) reminded the public on Monday to take precautions against common illnesses during rainy season.

In a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview over PTV-4, DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo said the public should watch out for WILD (water-borne diseases, influenza-like illness, leptospirosis, and dengue) -- diseases that can be prevented.

"Water-borne disease like diarrhea can be caused by contaminated water, especially during frequent rains and flooding," he said.

Domingo advised the public to boil drinking water for at least two minutes.

Frequent handwashing, on the other hand, is the best defense against influenza-like illness.
