Philippines, Oct. 2 -- Tropical cyclone Paolo (international name Matmo) has intensified into a severe tropical storm while approaching Northern Luzon, the weather bureau said in its 11 p.m. bulletin Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Paolo was last tracked east of Baler, Aurora, packing maximum sustained winds of 95 km. per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.
It slightly accelerated, moving west at 30 kph.
