Manila, July 8 -- Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Tuesday urged e-wallet companies to block online gambling by preventing their platforms from being used for betting transactions.

He said financial technology firms should take responsibility amid the rising popularity of online gambling platforms which only benefits the operators.

"Konting advice sa mga e-wallets: Tumulong kayo sa bayan. Huwag n'yo nang ipagamit ang inyong platform sa pagsusugal (A bit of advice to e-wallets: Help the country. Don't let your platforms be used for gambling)," Cayetano said in his Facebook live.

He said many of these companies are earning large profits and have the capacity to self-regulate.
