Manila, Jan. 22 -- The Senate Committee on Science and Technology on Thursday weighed a proposal to modernize the country's nuclear liability framework as science and energy officials said clearer rules are key to unlocking private investment and ensuring accountability in case of a nuclear incident.

During a Senate hearing on Senate Bill No. 1206, Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute Director Carlo Arcilla said the country is close to completing key institutional requirements for nuclear power development, including the operationalization of an independent nuclear regulator.
