Manila, June 27 -- President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed retired Army general Ricardo Morales as board member of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

In his appointment paper signed by Duterte on June 25 and released to the media on Thursday, Morales will serve as member of the PhilHealth Board of Directors, representing the indirect contributors.

His appointment comes almost one month after Duterte named him as member of the board of trustees of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

Reports earlier claimed that Morales was going to be named PhilHealth president and Chief Executive Officer after Duterte sought the resignation of Roy Ferrer over "bogus kidney dialysis treatments."
