Manila, Feb. 19 -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Caraga (BFAR-13) issued a red tide warning Tuesday for Lianga Bay, Surigao del Sur, and Litalit Bay, San Benito, Siargao Island.

Shellfish collected from the areas tested positive for paralytic shellfish toxins, BFAR-13 said.

The agency warned against collecting, selling, and eating shellfish and Acetes sp. (alamang) from the areas.

Fish, crabs, and shrimp can be eaten if their entrails are removed and they are rinsed thoroughly before cooking.

"BFAR and local government units will continuously monitor the areas," the agency said.

Information drives about the red tide warning are underway.
