Manila, Feb. 5 -- A married couple holding leadership roles in the New People's Army (NPA) surrendered to government troops in Bicol this week, the Army's 9th Infantry Division (9ID) reported Thursday.
Maj. Frank Roldan, 9ID spokesperson, identified the couple as "Pots" and his wife, who used the aliases Luis, Haraly, and Sab.
He said they served as secretary and political instructor for a guerrilla front operating in parts of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
The couple surrendered to the 42nd Infantry Battalion on Tuesday, turning over a .30 caliber rifle and a .60 caliber machine gun with ammunition.
Roldan said the couple told army officers they abandoned the armed struggle to pursue a peaceful life for their family.
