MANILA, Nov. 18 -- The Quezon City (QC) government is shifting towards science-based and long-term sustainable solutions to curb the worsening flood problems.

At the opening of the QC Flood Summit 2025 on Tuesday, Mayor Joy Belmonte said perennial flooding has become a major source of "collective trauma" for many, especially families living in flood-prone areas.

"Sa mga panahon ito, kapag kumukulimlim na, nag-uumpisa na ang pagpatak ng ulan, hindi na yata maiiwasan ang kabahan kahit kaunti, dahil ang unang sasagi sa isip mo, 'Naku po babaha na naman' (During these times, when it gets dark and the rain falls, it's inevitable to feel a little nervous, because the first thing that comes to mind is, 'It's going to flood again')," she said....
