ILOILO CITY, Dec. 1 -- The Department of Energy (DOE) is urging the public to be mindful of their power consumption this holiday season.

In an interview on Monday, DOE Visayas Field Office chief science research specialist Lourdes Arciaga said that it's been a while since Visayas is on a yellow alert, which means there is a very thin reserve margin.

She said this December, Christmas lights and festivities can result to increased power consumption.

"We want to appeal to the public that we balance this; we have to be conscious. We should practice timing and power scheduling so our grid will not be burdened," she said.

An example, she said, is to lessen the frequency of ironing clothes or doing it early in the morning.
