Manila, Feb. 28 -- Local shares' shedding on Friday ended below the 6,000-mark, while peso traded nearly weak.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped 2.06 percent to 5,997.97, with All Shares declining by 1.84 percent to 3,588.12.

"Philippine shares closed the month a few points below the 6,000-marker as fund managers rebalanced their portfolio for the month end and tracked the latest MSCI rebalancing," Regina Capital Development Corp. head of sales Luis Limlingan said.

Limlingan added that the PSEi also reflected US equities, which fell due to the Trump administration's reaffirmed tariffs on Canada and Mexico, while jobless claims surged to 242,000, exceeding forecasts of 225,000.
