Manila, June 24 -- A power bank exploded at the Roxas Airport in Capiz province on Tuesday, but no injury was reported, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.
The 72,000 milliampere-hour power bank was detected inside the baggage of a Manila-bound passenger during initial screening.
It exceeded the 160-watt-hour allowable capacity for power banks on board an aircraft, the CAAP said.
The owner, according to CAAP, initially claimed that the power bank was allowed on her inbound flight but eventually agreed to hand it to a companion outside the terminal.
"While arrangements were being made, the power bank suddenly sparked and ignited on the inspection table," CAAP said in a news release.
