Manila, March 23 -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has reminded local candidates that all their election expenses are subject to payment of withholding tax. Fabian Francisco, BIR assistant revenue district officer, issued the reminder in the run-up to the campaign period for local candidates on March 29. The campaign period for the national candidates started on February 12. Francisco said a 2-percent withholding tax will be imposed on radio and television campaign advertisement while a 1-percent tax will be imposed on print ads.
