Manila, Feb. 9 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it is intensifying security measures as Muslims and Christians across the country prepare for Ramadan and Lent, respectively.
The start of the holy month of Ramadan and Ash Wednesday will both be on Feb. 18 this year, creating a rare occasion where the Islamic fasting period and the Christian Lenten season begin on the same day.
The PNP said it has activated a nationwide security plan targeting major transport hubs, places of worship, and popular tourist spots.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. emphasized the importance of ensuring safe worship and reflection during this period.
