Manila, April 11 -- Two more cops succumbed to the coronavirus disease 2019, bringing the Philippine National Police (PNP) death toll to 44 as of Sunday.

The PNP confirmed in a statement that the fatalities were both from the Police Regional Office-Central Luzon.

The 43rd fatality was a 53-year-old officer who died on Saturday in Bataan due to severe pneumonia while a 48-year-old from Bulacan became the 44th victim on Sunday.

PNP's total active cases increased to 2,400, with 233 new infections, while 278 new recoveries raised the tally to 14,751.

Confirmed PNP cases are at 17,194.

Of the active infections, 2,317 are isolated in PNP facilities and local government units while 83 are in hospitals.
