Manila, Feb. 5 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has begun mobilizing personnel and resources to ensure public safety in areas expected to be affected by Tropical Storm Basyang.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police units are on alert for preemptive evacuations and post-disaster response, with maximum personnel deployment in high-risk areas.

"Our personnel on the ground are now on alert and on standby for deployment and quick response," he said in a statement Thursday.

The PNP is coordinating closely with local government units and other agencies to ensure a unified response. Personnel have also been ordered to prepare search and rescue assets and other resources for cyclone-related operations.
