Manila, June 8 -- Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III will visit the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Monday "to strengthen coordination and cooperation" between the two agencies.
The CHR earlier expressed concern over Torre's directive that the number of arrests linked to illegal drugs will be among his standards in assessing performance.
"The chief PNP will visit the Commission on Human Rights. He is going to explain himself because there was a negative interpretation about his recent statement," PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said in a radio interview.
Torre clarified that his call is not a contest, but a challenge to greater diligence, efficiency and lawfulness.
