Manila, Sept. 27 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday said its personnel joined road-clearing operations in communities affected by Typhoon Opong, particularly in the Bicol Region.

In a news release, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered police commanders to conduct damage assessments, check the condition of police stations and assets, and ensure immediate assistance to affected areas.

"Road clearing operations are necessary to ensure the smooth delivery of relief items needed by our kababayan (fellow citizens) who were severely affected by this weather disturbance," Nartatez said.

"They need immediate help and any assistance from the national government should not be delayed."
