Manila, April 30 -- The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said the viral video circulating anew on social media involving the arrest of one of its officers for alleged extortion is an old and recycled incident that happened in 2018.
In a statement on Tuesday, the PNP-HPG said the video was an entrapment operation set up following complaints of extortion in Pasay City.
The involved officer was subsequently dismissed from the service effective Sept. 25, 2019.
The HPG said the video is old and a merely "recycled" content intended to mislead the public.
Authorities noted that the video resurfaced after being reuploaded by four Facebook pages, spreading misinformation online.
