Manila, June 10 -- A regional lawmaker here on Tuesday urged the Ministry of Health (MOH) to intensify its program aimed at curbing the spread of tuberculosis (TB) disease in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Dr. Hashemi Dilangalen, a member of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), the BARMM's interim lawmaking body, has officially filed a proposed resolution calling on the MOH to address the rising number of TB cases across the region.
He cited a report from the MOH indicating that in 2024, the region had registered 13,547 TB cases. From January to May of this year alone, an additional 5,402 patients also tested positive for the infectious disease.
