Manila, Sept. 3 -- The push to increase renewable energy (RE) sources in the country remains supported by the private sector, as proven by the continued increase in committed projects, an official of the Department of Energy (DOE) said Wednesday.

In her speech during the Siemens Tech Forum in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday, Energy Undersecretary Rowena Guevara said RE accounts for 32.3 percent of the country's total installed capacity as of June 2025, but the highest share is accounted for by coal, at 41.9 percent.

She, however, noted the rising share of RE, which becomes more important as the Philippines is becoming an emerging regional hub for data centers.
