MANILA, Nov. 9 -- The Philippine Navy (PN) on Sunday placed BRP Bacolod City (LS-550), a transport ship, on standby for possible humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions that might arise from the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong).
"As part of the Navy's broader humanitarian efforts, the vessel has been placed on standby for potential HADR operations in view of the approaching Super Typhoon Uwan," PN Public Affairs Office chief Commander Maria Angelica Sisican said in a statement.
Once weather conditions improve, BRP Bacolod City will immediately proceed with its relief transport mission to bring much-needed aid to affected communities, she added.
