MANILA, July 4 -- The Philippine government on Friday thanked the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its resolution calling for increased support to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

In a statement, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) said OIC CFM Resolution No. 2/51-MM, which tackles "The Question of Muslims in the Southern Philippines," is both timely and relevant considering the peace, security, and development challenges BARMM is currently facing and in light of its first parliamentary elections scheduled on Oct. 13.
