Manila, Jan. 27 -- Malacanang on Tuesday said the Philippine government will not interfere in the pre-trial proceedings of the International Criminal Court (ICC) involving former president Rodrigo Duterte.

This came after the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber 1 announced on Monday that Duterte is deemed fit to stand trial, allowing pre-trials to open Feb. 23.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the matter is solely within the jurisdiction of the ICC.

"Ang nagpasiya po niyan ay ang pre-trial chamber 1 ng ICC (The decision was made by the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber 1," Castro told the media.

She said that the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. respects the processes of international bodies.
