Manila, Jan. 7 -- Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro has met with Myanmar's top military leaders as she assumes her role as special envoy of the 2026 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chair on Myanmar.

Lazaro led a Philippine delegation to Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday, where she held introductory meetings with Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe of the State Security and Peace Commission.

The DFA, in a statement on Wednesday, said the officials had a "warm and constructive exchange of views" on geopolitical developments and Myanmar's political situation, including its ongoing elections.
