Manila, May 19 -- The Philippine Army (PA) on Monday said its ongoing modernization program and training exercises with foreign allies are geared toward ensuring it can defeat armed drones and other modern threats.

"These are all part of our modernization efforts to adapt to the modern challenges," Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said.

He did not specify the kind of equipment the Army is looking to counter such threats for security reasons.

Dema-ala said armed drones and other emerging threats are extensively studied and discussed during exercises conducted with the Philippines' military allies.
