Manila, March 21 -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has called on the public to increase vigilance to prevent drowning incidents during the summer season and holidays.
At a forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency Ilocos Region on Friday, PCG Northern Luzon Special Operations Group commanding officer Lt. Junior Juanito Melad stressed that safety begins with self-awareness.
He advised the public to assess water conditions, such as current strength, wave height, and seabed terrain, before swimming.
"Number one, we should know how to swim. Number two, never swim alone. Third, look after the children. Fourth, assess areas for possible risks. Fifth, never swim when under the influence of alcohol or substances," Melad said in Filip...
