Manila, March 25 -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday rescued six crew members of a Philippine-flagged tugboat that collided with a bulk carrier in the waters off Maasim, Sarangani province.
In an incident report, the PCG said the tugboat, M/TUG Sadong 33, and the Panamanian-flagged vessel, MV Universe Kiza, collided at about 4:20 a.m., with a search-and-rescue team and three floating assets immediately deployed to the site.
Six of the eight crew members of M/TUG Sadong 33 were rescued and found in good physical condition.
"However, they also confirmed the untimely demise of M/TUG Sadong 33's captain with the recovery of his cadaver in the incident vicinity waters," it said.
