Manila, Jan. 5 -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 23 people after a recreational boat began sinking off Sombrero Island in San Pascual, Masbate on Jan. 3.

In a statement Monday, the PCG said the boat Harlyn, carrying 20 passengers and three crew members, struck an unidentified hard object about one to two nautical miles from the shoreline, causing water to enter the vessel and leaving it partially submerged.

All those on board were safely brought to Sombrero Island, where they received temporary shelter.

Food and clothing were provided by the resort management, local residents, and the San Pascual local government through its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
